Do Try this at Home! Episode 2 - Rocket Engine
Kids love ride on toys as soon as they start to learn to walk. It's seems quite funny that as soon as they have begun to master the use of their legs they want to sit in or on some form of toycar, bike or some other device that moves. These toys are popular with kids and there are plenty to choose from now. So this article will cover the different types and list a few popular ride on toycars for 5 year old kids (or around that age anyway).
It seems that ride on toycars can be split into 2 types. There are the "old school" pedal cars and the slightly more sophisticated electric models.
Most people go for the electric models for a couple of reasons.
The first is obvious, the power is supplied by the electric motor so it is really like a little car. It's great fun for the kids to play in and cute for the parents to see their little ones riding round in a little car.
Also the electric cars tend to be replicas of modern cars. So you can put your child in a Ferrari, Hummer, Mercedes Benz or a Porsche. You can even get replicas of cars from the movies, like Lightning McQueen from the Disney animated feature.
Having said this, pedal cars seem to be making a comeback. And here's a few reasons why.
Pedal cars tend to be a bit cheaper and simpler than the electric models. If they break down they can be fixed or at least the fault can be diagnosed fairly easily. This isn't always the case with the electric ride on cars.
Also, pedal models are fun to play in too. When the child is responsible for the power and the steering they feel more in control and closer to the toy or machine. It's also good exercise, which will please parents.
You can get some great looking pedal cars, including the chrome racer which is based on the race cars from the 1950's. It looks stunning and is bound to make a big impression on the neighborhood kids.

From a fragile helpless little creature who could barely open his eyes, you've seen how your little kid bloomed to become the active, curious, and energetic one-year-old that he is right now.
Now is the time when he graduates from the rattles and baby squeaky toys that used to make him burst into a fit of giggles. Now is the time when he progresses to more advanced toys that will be suitable in developing his skills and stimulating his mental growth.
Toys for one-year-old children include:
Stacking toys that come in different shapes, sizes and colors. These include stackable cups, pails, and rings are helpful in introducing your kid to a variety of shapes, sizes and colors. By learning how to stack up these toys his fine motor skills, hand to eye coordination, and spatial awareness are also being improved.
Unbreakable mirrors of assorted sizes. You might have noticed that your kid loves looking at that baby he sees whenever he's in your arms and you pass by a mirror. Toys like unbreakable mirrors are not only fun and enjoyable for your kid but will also allow for self-discovery which is important in his developmental progress.
Squeeze toys. These are good in improving your baby's grasp and release skills while the squeaky sounds that come from it will make your kid burst into laughter. Give your kid a variety of squeeze toys which can also be used in games like "where's the toy?" wherein you hide one and have your toddler look for it as his problem solving skills are being honed.
Cars, trucks and vehicle toys that do not have small or loose parts, sharp and pointy objects and are made of durable and flexible but safe plastic material.
Building toys such as large building blocks. Because your kid will be able to construct various creations from these, this is instrumental in honing his creativity and imagination.
Balls of various colors and sizes. Play baby soccer with your kid to improve his motor skills and eye to foot coordination by swinging him to kick these balls. Or use these balls to teach him about the round shape and the different sizes and colors and sharpen his visual discrimination.
Educational cardboard books with vibrant images and colourful prints. While your kid browses through these books, narrate to him and tell him about the things in the book, "this is a dog" or "this is a house." This will be beneficial in helping your kid's conceptual and language development.
Large dolls, plush toys or puppets. Babies are inherently enthusiastic about puppet shows. While these puppet shows are proven to keep baby amused and entertained, more importantly these will teach your kid about the art of conversation and encourage positive interaction. Have a Baby Einstein puppet talk to you and then respond. Talk about funny things or sings songs together.
Toys that mimic real-life gadgets and devices like toy telephones. Imitating older people is how a baby learns about the world around him Use these toys to encourage imitative play and cultivate his social and language development.

Today with the advancement of technology and variety of products in every field it has been easy to educate kids with the help of toys. There are a lot of educational toys in the market and many of them are really wonderful. The design and the purpose of each toy should be clearly matching, and at the same time the toy should be interesting for the kids. The most important part of toys is that they are meant for fun and recreation. So this basic feature should be there in any toy, whether it is an educational toy or any other. When the child finds interest in the toy, he will immediately learn what you want him to. You should also keep in mind that the toy should not be boring and monotonous, in any case so that the child feels enthusiastic while playing with it.
While buying educational toys for your kid you should check out your kid's interest, so that your money does not get wasted if you buy anything else. Children will never like to touch toys they don't find interesting. When the child is too small like few months old you can buy toys that will teach them different colors or shapes and concept of big and small or fat and thin and so on. It is easy to keep the child busy with such toys until they reach the age, where they can decide on their own, what they want to do. Here at this point, you will have to carefully choose the toys and try to create interest in your child, in such a manner, that he or she believes that they would like to play with the toy themselves and not because mom or dad is saying so. It is a tough job but here is the responsibility of the parents and the teachers.
It is good to educate your child without putting too much of pressure on them, thereby giving them stress, or making them feel that they are learning something. But at the same time kids need to play some games that involve them physically and keeps them fit in all sense. It is seen nowadays that kids are getting self-centered and like to play indoors rather than go and play out. This attitude of the modern day kids is making them obese and unhealthy in the long run. So parents should perfectly balance the educational toys with toys that are enjoyed and involve the child physically. This is an important step that should be taken from the very beginning and parents should understand that a child needs some outdoor games along with those educational toys.
Today toy companies are becoming conscious and are designing such toys that offer both fun and some challenge. You should let the child first see and test the toy in the store so that you will know whether he will play with it or not especially when it is an expensive one. You cannot force any child to play with the toys just because you think it is good for him and that will not give good results too. Also check the safety measures before buying the toys.
